Frequently asked questions

Do I need a permit for a fence?

Yes, you do need a permit for a fence. The fence must be at least 1 foot from the property line.

Do I need a permit for a deck?

Yes, if your deck is higher than 30" above grade, a building permit will be required. If it is 30" or lower, it is not subject to building codes. In both cases, a zoning permit is required.

Do I need a permit for a shed?

Yes, you do need a permit for a shed. 

  1. Sheds under 1000 sq. ft. : Zoning permit only
  2. Sheds under 1000 sq. ft. WITH ELECTRIC: Zoning and Building permits are required.
  3. Sheds over 1000 sq. ft.: Zoning and Building permits are required.

Can I have chickens & a coop?

If your intention is for personal consumption, the Township does allow chickens BUT please check your deed restrictions or HOA. A chicken coop requires a Zoning Permit and MUST be at least 50 feet away from the property line.  All animals shall be confined within the owner's property. All fences used to confine animals shall maintain a setback of not less than 5 feet from all property lines.   Read more...

Are horses allowed on my property?

A minimum of 3 acres are required for one horse and an additional acre is required for each additional horse.
